Overview

A recovery based on relationships, trust, and a common purpose

Details

Thirty years on, the legacy of lessons learned from the Manchester city centre bombing remains relevant. Julia Graham brings together the team, all still professionally active, who following the bombing of the city centre on 15 June 1996, provided leadership for the response and recovery of the businesses and 800 people of an insurance company located at Longridge House in Manchester. The event loss remains the largest property insurance claim ever paid by Pool Re, the UK Government-backed terrorism insurance company. Lessons from the experience provided key content and structure for the Publicly Available Specification PAS 56 - A Guide to Business Continuity Management, developed by British Standards in partnership with the Business Continuity Institute, published in 2003. The Specification includes sections covering business continuity and crisis programme management, strategies, plans, culture, post trauma management, exercising, maintenance, and audit. The Specification went on to provide foundations for British and International Business Continuity standards. In this session, the 1996 team will share their story through a case study including video and explore lessons they believe are still relevant and evolving - even after all these years.
